Hi! I'm Michael Thresher and I have been photographing 1000's of weddings. In the course of running a top-end portrait studio, it's been a policy to never publically distain our competitors. Recent events however, have lead me to share some vital information with all prospective brides. Regardless who you choose to be your photographer, if you consider the following information, much heartache can be easily avoided. The advent of the fully automatic digital camera has given rise to a new breed of "weekend" photographers who believe all they need is a smart camera to create wedding photos, and are attracting many bridal couples through hype and low price. These photographers think professional photography is simply defined as “being paid to take pictures”. Sorry, but the true definition of a professional is someone who is educated, experienced and proficient at their craft. It has nothing to do with being paid. Like a Marine, a professional is one who knows all aspects of their enviornment and their equipment and knows how to face any situation that might arise. Like a Pastor, a professional must know how to relate to people, know their names, and generate an enviornment that enhanses love and emotion. Like a Movie Director, a professional must be able to tell the story and not miss any supporting roles, situations, or details. This is a far cry from someone who presses a button fifteen thousand times and burns whatever results onto a CD for the bridal couple. Don't be fooled - their business model carries a great delusion – that you’re actually getting something for your money. In reality, there is no professional exchange for your investment. In fact, there is nothing provided by the photographer but a few hours of their time and a $.50 CD while they laugh their way to the bank with your money. Who is the looser? The bride and groom! I recently chatted with a disappointed mother of a bride who hired one of these “snapshooters” for her wedding. The price was "reasonable" and they received 1500 snapshots on a stack of CD's. But two years later, nothing had been done - the mother had only seen glimpses of the wedding on her daughters computer. As we talked, she realized what it takes to create a lasting memory album, and eventually hired us to create one for her. She felt that having to pay us to pick up the slack was just a "lesson learned", but I decided right then to share these thoughts with as many prospective brides as possible. How does a beautiful storybook wedding album, that captures your wonderful day from beginning to end, compare to a CD? Is a wedding photo as a background to you computer desktop all you want? I sure hope not! Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but providing exquisitely enhanced albums is the fundamental reason clients should always choose a professional wedding photographer. It ultimately comes down to value – does what you pay truly balance with what you receive? At River Street Photography, your initial investment may be slightly more, but the return on that investment is HUGE, and that’s where real value is. We made a decision years ago that only the finest work would depart through our studio doors and thousands of our clients are the winners because of that decision. I encourage you to not make the mistakes we see so many bridal couples make: choosing a cheap snapshooter, thinking that a CD is all you need. There is really so much more! Nothing can compare to beautifully crafted professional portraits meant to be enjoyed for a lifetime! So before you make such an important decision, call us at 509-782-3554 to chat - no cost and no obligation. You'll be able to see what experienced photographic artists can create and you'll be able to make an educated decision. Some people say that you get what you pay for. I disagree – there are many wedding couples today who are getting nothing for what they pay. Don’t let that happen to you! An Unbelievable Event Deserves an Incredible Keepsake!
